Description

Badge worn by an Oregon delegate to the Republican National Convention, St. Louis, 1896. Elaborate cast brass, gold-plated hanger formed in the shape of an eagle perched on Union shield, a streamer in beak inscribed, REPUBLICAN NATIONAL CONVENTION, from which is suspended a light blue silk ribbon with gold printing and wire braid tassel. Label of maker, Mermod & Jaccard's, St. Louis, verso. Original clasp. Ribbon somewhat faded, with a couple partial breaks and minor loss at upper right edge. This convention nominated William McKinley for president. Scarce and impressive badge.
